How to Search
If you enter more than one word, by default the database will search for records which contain all those words.
Example: If you search for “Auschwitz Memoir”, you will find all records with the terms Auschwitz AND Memoir. To broaden your search, try searching for “Auschwitz OR Memoir” to find all records with the terms Auschwitz OR Memoir.
Boolean operators allow you to combine several search criteria:
AND Narrows the search because the record has to match all search criteria
OR Broadens the search because records have to match either one or the other criteria
AND NOT Narrows the search because it finds records which match the first criteria but excludes any that have the second criteria.
Use an exclamation mark (!) to conduct a wildcard search:
Example: A search for Mem! will find records with the terms Memorial Sites, Memorials and Memory..
The Advanced Search allows you to refine results by language, date, place and more. We use controlled vocabulary for our keywords. Type in the first five letters of a word to get a list of suggested terms from our Library Thesaurus.
You don’t need to log in to search the Catalogue.
If you are a registered Reader, you can login to reserve material or you want to save searches. Until further notice log-in details have to be applied for in person in the Reading Room.
